010: Julie M. Simon, LMFT and Author on Emotional Eating, Overeating, Imbalanced Eating and a Holistic Intuitive Approach to Loving Your Self

Julie M Simon
Julie M. Simon, LMFT
Julie M. Simon, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Author of The Emotional Eater’s Repair Manual: A Practical Mind-Body-Spirit Guide for Putting an End to Overeating and Dieting, shares her own story of struggling with overeating, emotional eating, binge eating, and her healing journey from an eating disorder to a healthy, balanced life. Julie also shares some great insights on a holistic intuitive approach to eating disorders and struggles. Push the play button above to listen to the show or use the links below to listen on iTunes or Stitcher Radio.

Some of my favorite insights Julie shared were:

From an early age even as she struggled: “I always had an intuitive sense that our bodies are supposed to be a natural weight, not overweight and not underweight.  Always had a feeling that eating was supposed to be intuitive. I didn’t think that we were meant to live on diets.”
On understanding and healing emotions: “I could actually identify emotions. Sit with emotions. I didn’t have to go exercise them away. I didn’t have to go eat them away. I could actually tolerate them. I could learn how to comfort and soothe myself with them.”
Words of encouragement for someone facing an eating struggle: “It doesn’t require willpower. It doesn’t require white knuckling it. It doesn’t require willpower. It doesn’t require going hungry. All it requires is willingness.”
